About this service

A genuine 24/7 emergency locksmith is not a marketing slogan — it is a promise that whatever time you call, a real human answers, a real engineer is dispatched, and a real fixed price is agreed before anyone gets in a van. First Line Locksmiths has built its reputation across West London, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire by treating every late-night lockout, broken cylinder and post-burglary callout as a priority job, day or night, weekend or bank holiday.

When you're locked out at 2am or facing a broken lock after a break-in, First Line Locksmiths dispatches a DBS-checked engineer to your door in 20–40 minutes. We cover residential and commercial properties across West London, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with non-destructive entry as the default and fixed pricing quoted before any work begins.

What's included

  • Average 20–40 minute response, day or night
  • Non-destructive entry preserves your existing locks
  • Fixed quote agreed on the phone — no hidden call-out fees
  • DBS-checked, fully insured engineers in marked vans
  • Pay only when the job is complete and you're satisfied

Where we cover

We provide emergency locksmith across West London, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire, including:

What a real 24-hour emergency locksmith looks like

There is a huge difference between a local 24-hour emergency locksmith and a national call-centre booking line that pretends to be local. The booking line takes your card details, pings the job to whichever subcontractor accepts it first, and the price you were quoted on the phone often bears no resemblance to the price on the invoice when the work is done. The result is the horror stories you have probably read about — £600 invoices for a 15-minute lockout, drilled cylinders that did not need to be drilled, and locks fitted that no British insurer would ever accept.

First Line Locksmiths is the opposite of that model. The phone is answered by an engineer or by our office in Slough — never by a call centre in another county. The engineer who gives you the price is the engineer who turns up at your door. The van is marked, the ID is checked, the price is fixed and the work is guaranteed for 12 months. Every engineer on our team is DBS-checked, fully insured, drives a marked van and carries photo identification. We are a local, independently owned firm — not a national call-centre middleman — so the price you are quoted on the phone is the price you pay on the doorstep.

We attend domestic lockouts, commercial lockouts, post-burglary boarding-up, snapped keys, failed UPVC gearboxes, broken handles, jammed mortice locks, stuck garage doors and absolutely every other reason a property suddenly will not open or will not lock. Average attendance into our core West London, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire coverage area is 20–40 minutes. Engineers are positioned across Slough, Langley, Iver, Uxbridge, Hayes, Heathrow, Staines, Windsor, Maidenhead, Bracknell, Reading, Earley, Tilehurst, Oxford, Harrow and the M4/M40/M25 corridor so we are almost never further than 20 minutes from your door.

Average response times across our coverage area

Response time is the single biggest difference between a useful emergency locksmith and a useless one. Standing on the doorstep in the rain at 1am with a screaming toddler is not the moment to discover your locksmith is two hours away. We publish honest average response times for every town we cover — Slough 20–30 minutes, Reading 25–40 minutes, Oxford 25–45 minutes, Windsor 20–35 minutes, Maidenhead 20–35 minutes, Heathrow 15–30 minutes, Harrow 25–40 minutes, Uxbridge 20–30 minutes, Staines 20–35 minutes, Bracknell 25–40 minutes.

These are real averages from real jobs, not made-up marketing numbers. They are achievable because we are a genuinely local team — engineers based across Slough, Langley, Hayes, Uxbridge, Staines, Maidenhead and Reading mean somebody is almost always within 20 minutes of your postcode. National chains route you to whoever is nearest on a national map; that engineer might be 90 minutes away in Watford. We will tell you on the phone if we cannot reach you within 45 minutes — and if we cannot, we will recommend someone who can.

Non-destructive entry — picking, bumping and bypass

Over 95% of UK residential lockouts can be resolved without damaging the lock. A trained locksmith with modern picks, bump keys, letterbox tools and bypass kits will open a euro cylinder, a 5-lever mortice deadlock, a Yale-style night latch or even most high-security cylinders in a few minutes — and the lock continues to work exactly as before. You go back in, you keep your existing keys, and the only cost is the call-out and labour.

The reason rogue locksmiths drill is that drilling is fast and lets them charge for a new cylinder on top of the labour. We do the opposite — drilling is always the last resort, you are told before any drill comes out, and you give explicit consent. On the rare occasion drilling is genuinely necessary — for example a snapped or seized cylinder, an anti-pick lock with no bypass route, or a safe deposit — we have the replacement parts on the van so you are not left waiting for a wholesaler to open in the morning.

Fixed pricing — what an emergency call-out actually costs

Our standard emergency lockout starts at £95 daytime and stays at a transparent published rate at night. UPVC gearbox replacements typically come in between £179–£229 fully fitted. A like-for-like euro cylinder replacement is around £99 fitted, an upgrade to TS007 3-star anti-snap around £119–£139 fitted. A 5-lever BS3621 mortice lock replacement is around £159–£189 fitted. Boarding-up after a burglary starts at £149.

You are quoted a fixed total over the phone — call-out, labour and parts in one number — and that is the number that appears on the invoice. There is no surcharge for evenings, weekends or bank holidays on standard jobs. There are no hidden VAT shocks at the end. If the job genuinely turns out to need extra parts (for example a multipoint mechanism replacement on top of a cylinder), the additional cost is agreed with you before any work continues.

Common emergencies we resolve every week

Locked out after slamming the door: by far the most common reason people call. A non-destructive entry, fixed price, and the existing keys continue to work. Locked in after a handle failure: more common than you might think, especially on older UPVC doors where the external handle has dropped. We get you out and replace the handle on the spot.

Snapped key in the lock: we extract the broken half, and in most cases the lock continues to operate normally. If the cylinder is damaged we replace it from van stock. Failed UPVC multipoint gearbox: the handle lifts but the key will not throw the bolts. Gearbox replaced from van stock for 90%+ of UK systems including GU, Fuhr, Maco, Yale, Avocet, ERA, Mila, Lockmaster, Roto and Winkhaus.

Post-burglary callout: priority response, boarding-up, lock replacement, written report and photos for your insurance claim. Lost keys with no spare: lock change to fresh cylinders so the lost keys are useless. Vandalised lock (superglue, broken key inside): cylinder removed, replaced and tested in a single visit.

Insurance, identification and your peace of mind

Inviting a stranger into your home at 2am is, understandably, unnerving. Every engineer we send arrives in a marked van, in branded uniform, carrying photo ID and a printed copy of our public liability and professional indemnity insurance certificates (£5m and £10m respectively). You are welcome to call our office to verify the engineer's identity before opening the door, and the engineer will ask you for ID matching the address before opening the lock — it protects us both.

Our work is guaranteed in writing for 12 months on parts and labour. If anything we have fitted fails within that period for any reason that is not user-caused damage, we return at no cost. Itemised, VAT-receipted invoicing as standard, with the BS3621 / TS007 3-star Kitemark of every part fitted clearly identified — exactly what your insurer needs.

Coverage map — which towns we attend in under 45 minutes

We cover Slough (SL1, SL2, SL3), Reading (RG1–RG6, RG30, RG31), Oxford (OX1–OX4), Windsor (SL4), Maidenhead (SL6), Bracknell (RG12, RG42), Heathrow (TW6, UB7), Harrow (HA1–HA3), Uxbridge (UB8, UB10) and Staines (TW18, TW19), with the same fixed pricing 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

If you are outside this core area we will still try to help — particularly anywhere on the M4 corridor between Heathrow and Newbury, on the M40 corridor from Uxbridge to Oxford, and on the M25 between Watford and Cobham. Honest expectations matter to us: if we cannot reach you in a useful timeframe we will say so on the phone rather than waste your night.

When to call us vs when to call the police

Call the police on 999 first if you are in immediate danger, if there is somebody in the property who should not be there, or if a burglary is in progress. Call them on 101 to log a non-emergency crime number after the event — this is what your insurer will ask for.

Call us as soon as the property is safe to attend. We can be on site while you are still on the phone to your insurer; we will provide the written security report, the photographs, the itemised invoice and the BS3621 / TS007 3-star certified parts that your insurer needs to settle the claim. After the immediate repair we will do a free follow-up security review of every other door and window to help prevent a repeat — including advice on sash jammers, London bars, hinge bolts and anti-snap cylinder upgrades.

Common questions

Most emergency jobs in our coverage area are reached within 20–40 minutes. Rural Berkshire and Buckinghamshire postcodes can run a little longer — we'll give you an honest ETA on the call.
